I was going to open with "You, sir, are a baboon.", but that seemed to
be too much like what I guess you were trying to elicit. And it would
have hardly been a constructive way to start.

I don't usually get cranky about much these days, but you have managed
to touch a button for me. So, here goes.

You vacuous attempt to ridicule OpenSolaris as being deficient because
the 'very most important part' of the OS is printing, and that it's
completely broken, makes absolutely no sense to me or anyone without
some actual detail.

I use OpenSolaris every day, print with it every day, and when using
printers I expect to work, have NO problems with it. Every day.

I use a LOCALE of C, and indeed, I'm aware that using something other
than C can be an issue from time to time - but I'm not aware of what the
issues are, as I am an english-only kind of guy, so never exercise those
code paths. The developers may also never know about these issues if we
as a community don't tell them what is broken. And the way to do that is
with a bug.

To me it seems that at least the basic printing functionality required
is there.

If you have some *specific* issues with the print subsystem, log them as
a bug.

Further, with reference to the ARC - If you think some *specific*
discussion points or decisions are idiotic, point out the issues and
decisions, with links to the source of the decision. (eg, ARC case) Get
the discussion happening in the right forum.

I have read a lot of ARC cases over time, and in the vast majority of
cases, I believe they make good decisions. (Boot archive
not-withstanding - heh ;). But - like most groups that look at a lot of
stuff and have to make many decisions, they do occasionally render what
some may think is a stinker. Again, it's up to us as a community to let
them know, with facts and detail, if, and why it stinks. Better yet,
offer a solution. (and saying Do it like SUSE is *not* a solution...)

Though I can't imagine you would, don't expect that content free
commentary and deliberately derogatory statements such as yours will do
anything beneficial, or that it will do anything other than upset the
very community you at least *seem* to want to be a part of.

If you are genuinely looking for assistance or improvement, it's time to
put the stick away and find a carrot.

If you just want to rile up the guys at Sun and get them to add you to
their filters as someone that never has anything interesting to say and
should be ignored, just keep on behaving the way you are.

Finally, to the Sun Guys and others who have responded on this thread
already - Top work guys and gals. I'm very impressed that you can take
this sort of thoughtless and detail devoid ranting from someone at the
Hawaii Linux Institute and *still* offer to assist. That's classy. You
folks are the reason OpenSolaris has come as far as it has in the short
time it's been around. Keep up the good work.

Cheers, all.

Nathan - stepping down off his high horse.
