I suspected that was your problem. The permissions issue has been fixed in build 131, so users going forward won't have this specific problem. I'll also add some more information about how GDM GConf works so it is more clear what the ~gdm/gconf.path file does. > very thanks for all your replies and help My pleasure. Brian
