I also think that the tablet market is ripe for a radical move to the
web, probably a lot more than the phone market was. Let me elaborate on
that: I've got a tablet which I don't use as my primary device neither
for communicating (I've got a phone for that) nor for producing and
consuming most information (I prefer my desktop) but I've got a few use
cases where the tablet comes in handy:

1) Reading documents, it's usually PDFs which I've loaded on a cloud
storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc...)

2) Reading the news / articles in tech press

3) Reading my e-mail (but not responding to it)

4) Watching videos

What does these four things have in common? I could do *all* of them
from within a browser. Currently I use a browser only for 2) because
native apps for the other three work better (though I often find myself
watching movies directly within Firefox) but none of the other uses
needs a native app; they just need a good web app.

There's a few extra things I do on my tablet which don't really have a
replacement but those take probably less than 10% of the time I spend on
it: games and making video calls. The latter might be done from within a
web app but the former aren't going anywhere possibly because of the
lack of a commercial distribution mechanism for web apps similar to the
major app stores.

Now, I'm sure there are also different use-cases for tablets and I don't
want to generalize my experience but I am fairly confident that 90%+ of
what I do on my device could be done using existing web technologies.
