Would you put an instrumentation layer on it? If yes, then consider JMX.
Other approach is to have more than one Cocoon core proposal. Well, concrete proposals. You already have one. Thor could dump some code snippets from his brain and the community should decide which one is better.
I'm all for it, as long as this doesn't slow us down.
