Indeed, one should ideally get permission to remove the @author tags
and move them to the pom (for example).
It seems to me that permission is granted when the author signs the ICLA.
They are deprecated in ASF source, because code is a community effort.
Besides, they are impossible to maintain with any sort of accuracy as
the source is updated.
Author tags are a boondoggle within the ASF. I recommend removing them.
