Has anybody contacted Avery, and what was their response? I think we need to offer easy-to-access industry standards. MSO is an industry standard. So is Avery. However, the way we offer them can be different, depending on the amount of support we get. The Avery Wizard in MSO is available by clicking on an Avery icon on their toolbar. OO has no Wizard and it's not abundantly clear how to do their labels the first time you try it. If Avery developed a Wizard and templates for OO, we could offer an Avery icon on Writer's toolbar, too. Seems like that would be good for Avery, too. I think promotion of OO on their website might be too much to hope for currently, but possible later on. Start with baby steps.

Sometimes I think this is a mistake and sometimes not :-) Depends on my usage. Seems to be something we need so lets keep it. > Why? MS has supported us somehow? No, of course not. OOo has to have these to be the least relevant. That is not so much true of labels, though. Hence the question. > I think we are working for users needs and this sets some 'must have' > conditions. > We just cannot exist without users base, just for ourselves [developers]. > Of course not. So letÅ look at what Avery provides MS: 1. A wizard 2. templates 3. website support of MS to the exclusion of other office suites and the reverse is true. Seems monopolistic to me. So lets take another approach to the discussion. 1. OOo needs to get funding, 2. Avery, for one is getting a free ride, 3. how to get (1) from (2) without rocking the boat too much. By the way, I opened this on the doc project to get ideas and opinions on this idea before attempting to enlist a larger audience. I certainly appreciate the time everyone has taken to try to bring to the discussion. WRT, the German label providers that have added to our repertoire, I think that it would be a good thing to give them some better presence in OOo than simply depending on an alphabetic sort. After all they have contributed and in that way sponsored the project. Likewise for other sponsors including Sun. -- G.
