Excuse me if I'm getting a little confused, here. I'm envisioning a work flow like this:

Developer list of functions includes (for example) "Zork Function".
Q: Does a page for that exist?
: No, -> list: "Pages we must write"
: Yes, update content as necessary.
: Q: Does the automated process index this page?
:: Yes again, fine; we are done with this item.
:: No, fix page title / attributes such that it will be indexed automatically.
Iterate for all developer list items.
Run automated index process as needed.

The automated index seems crucial. Indexing as I suggested above will make the list noticeably longer. And sort it more usefully, too.

excuse me now, but I'm getting confused, too. We are talking about the installed help for BASIC, aren't we? Updating the installed help is currently my task. Sorry, there is still no direct way of editing possible for the community. Currently, the community can improve the installed help files by submitting issues or dropping me a mail directly or on this mailing list. And the community can supply improved help files to the OOo Wiki, as for example David King does since some time to improve the Calc help, see http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/How_Tos/Calc:_Functions_listed_by_category

The Wiki is a very good place to add more helpful information than the installed help can provide. The Wiki can be more up to date, images and examples, even ODF documents can be included, and every user can add to the Wiki pages. We want to have all installed Help pages on the Wiki, too, in a process that allows to copy new and edited contents back and forth. But there are some issues to be solved first, so progress is slow.

Now you mentioned "indexing" for the installed help contents. There are two types of indexing: 1. The index entries that you see at the Index tab of the Help Viewer. These index entries are all inserted and maintained manually. 2. Creating the index for the full text search at the Find tab of Help Viewer. This is done when the Help gets built, normally that is when the whole OOo is built. It's a full text index, may be some stop words are hidden from that index, I don't know because I need not know ;-)
