Scott Preece commented on FALCON-1313:
--------------------------------------

THere's no single right answer for monitoring/alerting for an open-source
system.

There are many different use scenarios for many different users. Some users
will use JMS, some will have corporate monitoring systems that need hooks to
attach to, and some will be perfectly happy with e-mail.

While a corporate installation may run thousands of feeds, in many cases there
are individual owners for each feed whose only concern is whether their feed's
jobs ran correctly over the course of a day. E-mail is a happily simple
solution for users with lightweight needs - they don't have to set up any
additional infrastructure (no JMS subscriber, no active monitoring module to
plug in to code they don't control) - they just get e-mail that their MUA can
file appropriately. It's hard to argue with "It just works".
