It's not a bug, it's a feature. ;-)
The subversion server is configured to reject checkouts at the project
root level to avoid problems especially with projects with many
branches and tags. You need to explicitly checkout the trunk or
another subtree below the project root.

So how can we get the file that are on the root of the project?



Yep, I ran into this same issue, although I didn't expect that other people would have checked out everything. :-)

I would assume that we can get files in the root, just not the root itself...but I haven't tried this yet.
