It will work for all apps that support multiple spell checking backends. I am 
not aware of any any application migrating to hunspell that would have chosen 
to support ONLY hunspell, nothing else. For more happy news, see the

In fact, if you really want to support spell checking in your application and 
avoid the problem of dictionary maintenance, I suggest taking look at 
Enchant: http://www.abisource.com/projects/enchant/
This is the route that KDE 4 and quite many Gnome apps are taking.

We support all of these, and additionally an ispell wrapper for the older apps 
that do not know about the more modern solutions. In practice only those 
applications that use Aspell exclusively are not currently supported by 
Voikko.

Also, Finnish is not the only language that has to deal with this. Turkish 
spell checking works more or less the same way:
