I'm sorry to hear that you aren't seeing the activity you'd like in the UK. Over the past 12-24 months we've really been focusing our efforts on bringing ColdFusion to new communities and customers. We have a whole range of things planned going forward, but I'd love to hear from this community what you think is missing and what else you'd like to see.
I know this isn't specific to the apparent slow demise of CF in the UK, but I think it would be nice to see the coldfusion.com domain being utilised to provide a CF specific developer community portal like www.asp.net etc. Macromedia is a company with many products, many of which are targeted at web and graphic designers, and it does seem that CF is just allowed to mingle with the crowd.
CF obviously fits into some grand plan at MM, but I fear that too much emphasis is placed on cross-selling the various products and on selling to larger enterprises without placing much emphasis on CF as simply an exceptional web development platform, independent of other MM products. This does not convey a message to developers and IT managers etc. that CF is central to MM business plans, so smart developers worry about where the platform is going and start looking at increasing their familiarity with other programming languages / development platforms while IT managers become more hesitant to use CF for fear that hiring developers will prove difficult. MM could push CF as an independent web development platform using a CF community portal, while continuing to push the entire suite of products at MM.com.
And oh yeah, the MM exchange (and to be honest, most of the MM site) is bleedin' horrible. Why, oh why is flash used here? There is absolutely no need, it adds nothing and I even find I can't use multiple windows in IE when using the site 'cos various flashy bits fail to load if the window loses focus.
