Hey Stephen et al,
So I am the MM guy here...
But I am not really sure what you would like us to say. So these are my
thoughts, not those of the company I work for.

CF represents MMs third largest product and we sink hundreds of hours
speaking to User groups, speaking to developers and customers.

There are many on this list that know that I am basicly at every MMUG and
CFUG that I can get to (I am currently in SF on holiday, in a park and still
reading this list - gotta love wireless)

I am reminded of a phrase, we help those who help themselves.
I traveled to the largest usergroup meeting that the northern usergroup had.
It was 20 people. Not really compelling for MM to pay the train fair for
that.

MM's partner team are more than happy to come to almost any end user meeting
that you care to have (as long as you can show that there will be revenue)
and help you pitch CF

And as for the comment about CF evangelists, I guess that is what I am...
That is what my card says anyway...

OK, so far we sound as though we agreed, CF in the UK could be and
should be better supported, but how can we make MM aware of this. No one
from MM has replied to this list. Should we post of CF-talk list or in
the Macromedia Forums. It would be nice to get an official response from
someone in MM.

Subject: RE: [ cf-dev ] The state of ColdFusion in the UK

I've implemented ColdFusion systems at a number of fairly big names.

Like others here I've encountered resistence because finding CF
developers isn't straight forward (it isn't something our Project
Managers have heard of) they also like to know that there are other
companies out there using it, a kind of safety in numbers thing.

I've often had to compile lists of comapnies that use it and also
demonstrate that there are enough CF dvelopers available to cover their
needs once we've left.

I think the usage of CF is grossly under-reported. I've seen quite a few
installations at places that you wouldn't immediately think of as well
as knowing about a number of Intranet apps that aren't exactly visible.

All of this would benefit from a higher profile and generally greater
awareness.

MM in the UK provide precious little support outside of CFUGUK and not
that much for CFUKUG. MM UK have had a poor reputation for years, you
should have tried getting support out of them for Director (their
flagship product) 5 years ago.

Almost everything gets referred to the US as the guys here are all sales
and not much else.

What the solution to this is though I have no idea.

Steve
