All,
As many of you are aware, we use "Bouncer" for downloads. [0] This is
a sophisticated (to me, anyway) download mechanism that more or less
does what load balancing does: it alleviates downloaders of confusing
choice and chooses available servers that have the application. Each
mirror is still responsible for having the files but users are not
responsible for finding them.
It would be great if all used it, as it would not only simplify
things for your users but also allow us to better track downloads,
something that is only poorly done now. And tracking downloads is
important if we want to persuade large entities to support the
project--or even migrate to OOo. They want to see how many have
actually downloaded OOo or use it.
For 2.1, the following localizations used Bouncer: ja, sv, en-US,
fr, pl, it, ga, mk, vi
If you want to use Bouncer--and I urge it--the process for getting
servers included is fairly straightforward, and one can file issues.
I've cc'ed Joost Andrae for further information.
Best,
Louis
