This implies that if your file name contains a dot, you need to specify
the desired extension automatically, where previously you could rely on
OOo adding it.

That is, in 2.3 you could save a file "foo.bar" with "AutoExtension=ON",
the it became foo.bar.odt. If you really wanted foo.bar, you could turn
AutoExtension OFF.

With the current behaviour, it is impossible to save as foo.bar.

With your suggested behaviour, it requires to enter "foo.bar.odt" if you
really want this name. Which is okay for a "foo.bar" case, but will
probably be forgot for a file name like "Letter to Mom, 1.3.2003" - that
is, if in your file name, you use dots as part of other "non-extension"
text.

So, with the AutoExtension option, there's a trap for a certain class of
users. Without it, there's a trap, too. I am uncertain, actually, which
one is worse.
