I think they(the JCL team) have achieved binary compatibility. The question is about the dependency: Should slf4j rely on 1.04 (because this was the latest stable release when slf4j was initially developed) or should slf4j rely always on the latest available (compatible) version? As soon as an incompatible version comes up, two branches are necessary.
