+1 I agree with that. However (and maybe I misunderstood), I thought this question was about the git part of github. I (and again, personally) think that the biggest benefit of moving to git is more seemless integration with github on the level of e.g., pullrequests, fork, etc - especially considering change/commiter history. In this regard, if I understand correctly, we have two options namely, wip and dual-master. I'm in favour of the one that makes working with us on github the easiest.
