Hi *,

I learned in issue 51002 that "upstream" requires/wants all expandable
elements of the filepicer to be expanded.

I kindly ask you to reverse the defaults or to rethink this decision
completely.

The whole point in the gtk-fpicker is to only show the most relevant
items and collapse everything else.
Your decision to expand all controls renders this whole concept useless.

This is both true for the load-dialog where you rarely need the manual
filetype override. There is a filetype-filter in the collapsed view so
no need to expand the override. Expanding it only takes away screen
estate for the contents
And this is true for the save-dialog. Where the point of the dialog is
to only present the user with his favorite directories for quick access.
You don't usually save everything in a new directory or in a format
other than the default.
You can expand the filetype override in the collapsed view to select a
different filetype.
You can expand the folder-browser to save to a directory other than your
favorite. The folder-browser has a filetype selection dropdown on its
own, so expanding both the folder-browser and the filetype override
doesn't make sense at all.

So please make the non-expanded view the default. Or at least explain
your reasons for this policy.

ciao
Christian
