First, it would be nice to make the project home pages (that's
http://sc.openoffice.org etc.) the first stop for anyone interested in
one of the modules. Until now, these pages were targeted only at
developers, we should change that. That doesn't mean duplicating user
and marketing related material, but rather linking to it.
http://www.openoffice.org/product/calc.html would be one of the first
links on the "new" Calc page ("what's this all about?"). As a result,
we would no longer have user and developer pages separated so much,
and perhaps this would encourage more users to also consider helping
with development (including QA).
Which also could be achieved by pointing from the product pages
(http://www.openoffice.org/product/writer.html) to the project pages
(http://sw.openoffice.org).
A user might see the marketing text, determine that's not what he is
looking for and not even read down to the link.
Still, it would be better than nothing.
I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to guide "consumers" through the
project pages. I have to admit that I'm a proponent of the idea to
separate sites for consumers and contributors.
Why? Shouldn't we try to lure users into participating and contributing?
