I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to guide "consumers" through the
project pages. I have to admit that I'm a proponent of the idea to
separate sites for consumers and contributors.

Why? Shouldn't we try to lure users into participating and contributing?

Sure, I'm not saying that the area / site with content for "consumers" shouldn't have traps to convert "consumers" to "contributors" :-)
I'm fine with links guiding from one area to the other.

But I think that the structure, style and infrastructure for the content addressing these two different audiences could be different. Some examples are things like the login fields, my pages tab entry, flashy and colorful opposed to factual and discreet, advertising or not, capable to handle peak demand of downloaders opposed to a feature rich development platform, ...

We don't have to resolve all these questions now. But my impression is that the target audiences would benefit from a clearer distinction. As said that doesn't mean we should build an impervious wall.

Greetings
Stefan
