Hi Kay,
Some other remarks:
- Try to include the mission statement earlier: Maybe start with:
OpenOffice.org is both a product and an open-source project. Both have
been in existence since October 13, 2000. OpenOffice.org 1.0, the product,
was released on April 30, 2002. OpenOffice.org's mission statement is:
<blockquote>
To create, as a community, the leading international office suite that
will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality
and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format.
</blockquote>
OK...yes I did add some verbiage to the top, but I'll work on this also.
Maarten pointed out some things to me in my previous post, and, yes, we
will no longer ahve the "New..." button and I think, really this is
adequatly covered by the link to why.openoffice.org.
Agree.
that I think we can use for this with your blessing. :)
It is definitely getting better.
It incorporates the old About Us page *and* the existing
http://www.openoffice.org/about_us/introduction.html
page which will not be linked once we ditch the "New..." button.
I think you should try to rework the page a bit and try to deal with I'd
think of as the two most important target groups of the about page:
- journalists
- people that may be about to get involved.
Journalists...hmmm...hadn't thought of that.
The information seems to be at times scattered around... Maybe you could
group it a bit more. If you make use of <html> headings you can also use
<h2>,<h3>,<h4> to add more hierarchy to the contents.
Hopefully this will also eliminate a lot of duplication that was found
on those two pages as well.
Incredibly important work... so much information is scattered around
everywhere...
ps to Maarten: I didn't retool this on the wiki :/ It was just easier
to put it back into tryouts so it can be moved to about_us at some point.
Well... my idea was that the default output of the wiki is in fact HTML,
which can be copy pasted at any time into the collabnet structure... But
if you prefer it this way... I don't mind... it would have been easier to
make the changes for me now... not having access to CVS etc.
I think you DO have cvs access and don't know it! I think you probably
still have access to the main web project and the 'website" project.
Maybe you should check this. ;}
OK...I'll work on this more today when I get a chance. Thanks for the
feedback.
g.,
Maarten
