Don't think this is necessary, just switch to the new download page.
Remember all the requests "make snapshots/rc/milestone builds more
prominent"? When hiding the real download page by introducing a download
in the front-page we're back to that problem.
Furthermore none of the other action-items opens up, so I vote against
incorporating the download page inside the frontpage.

The most important is a suitable color-scheme. Keep gradients in the
headings or not, etc.

Thanks for working on it already, I suggest using a dedicated
stylesheet, one can add that for IssueZilla only
($helmR.getServletName().equals("IssuezillaHelmNoodle"))
Same thing as for the sidebar: What colors to use basically...

I personally don't think that the fontsize needs to be improved, but I'm
sure there are different opinions depending on who you ask...
