A few of us have commit rights to the Doc section of the OO.o website. :-) There is a lot of old information floating about on the documentation.openoffice.org pages. We've done some cleanup, archiving old info, redirecting to the Wiki where appropriate, but there are a lot of "hidden" pages that need updating and changing. > Clayton, would it be sane to collect documents like these, move them to > an archive inside the documentation project with links from the old > pages? Maybe with easy access to 1.x documentation from the first page? Definitely. If you look at documentation.openoffice.org you can see that the Setup guide link you're referring to at http://documentation.openoffice.org/setup_guide2/ is not linked anywhere... What we can do is.... ummm... leave the page where it is... make some changes to the content stating that it is only applicable to older versions of OOo, and direct people to the new doc. >> These docs are the purview of the >> documentation project and it is up to them how to manage these Per is in the doc project :-) so it's OK. Any suggestions are welcome. >> guides is from the installation instructions. And yes, the setup guides >> do not correspond to our current release but they are probably still >> valid. Mmmm not really. As Per is discovering as he edits this document, the info is out of date in many ways. >> I suppose the documentation project has not established a way >> to update them since OOo2.x. The docs are updated as we can, and as we get to them... "we" meaning the OOo Doc community. There are only a few people that are active, so it takes time to get around to looking at the older docs and updating them. Also, we are discovering documents all the time that are hidden away... forgotten because project members who started them are no longer around, or no longer active in the Doc project. If anyone discovers docs that are not being maintained, dropping a message here or the doc mailing list is fine.
