Well a LONG time ago, we are talking at least , oh my! 8 yrs ago, it
seems there was kind of a shortage of good info on how to deal with some
installation annoyances with OOo. The good man, Ron Singletary (I think
that was his name) went through a lot of overhaul on the docs...well the
Linux packaging got better as well, but still we needed instructions!
And form time to time, I forget what these lovely specifics are. I spent
some time updating, and still do as late as probably last year with the
3.x release, the Linux installation instructions, finding that somehow
they get left by the side of the road! :/ Although I know things have
gotten much better with most distros keeping up with the OOo updates, I
can't see that it hurts to keep the installation for Linux. etc. as up
to date, and non-confusing as possible.

So, my .02 on all this.
