Great idea. This could help reduce the data traffic (esp. when major
versions are released). The same change could be implemented on the
homepage (after some initial testing on the download website).

My only concern is with regard to style - your proposal clutters the
light green space below the download button; I would move it up so
that it looks more like an integral part of the button (signifiying
the download).
