I believe that transcripts are not available for crown and magistrate courts
unless you have them done by firms like Merrill Legal Solutions. This can be
very expensive indeed - hundreds of pounds.
Unless requested, they are not typed up, simply stored for a certain number
of years (five?) before being disposed of.
See details of process below.
*Re: HOW TO OBTAIN CROWN COURT TRANSCRIPTS*
Court hearings are not automatically transcribed, therefore transcripts
are not immediately available. We only transcribe court proceedings at your
request. The attached form needs to be printed, completed and faxed to us in
order to initiate the process. Please fax the form to* **0207 422 6089** **or
by email to [email protected]*
Once we receive your form, we deliver it to our reporters based at the
Crown Court. They locate the court logs based on the information you have
provided us with. *Please note that it is essential that you provide us with
exact dates of hearings*. We are not part of the Court Service and therefore
do not have access to the court's database. *In order to obtain dates,
please contact Post Trial at the relevant Crown Court. The court details can
be obtained via the following web site:*
http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/HMCSCourtFinder/ .
You can expect to receive a written quote via fax or post shortly after
submitting your form to us. The quote is based on the length of the hearing
(or extract of the hearing) that you require. The final amount is based on
the number of words upon completion of the transcript. Therefore, our
estimates are not exact. It costs approximately £165.60 per hour of court
time (inc VAT). So, a whole day's proceedings (6 hours) will cost
approximately £993.60 (inc VAT).
*Our standard turnaround time is 3 weeks*. We are very aware of the urgent
nature of some orders and we offer an expedited service, but this service is
dependent on the length of proceedings and the volume of orders we currently
have.
*Please note:* we require a full deposit (which will be indicated on your
quote) before we start transcription, so please factor this in when ordering
transcripts. If you delay payment, your transcript will be delayed.
If you are not a direct party nor a government body, you must obtain
written permission from the judge who presided over the case. In order to do
this, please contact the Court Manager at the relevant Crown Court.
Transcription will not commence if we are not provided with written
permission.
