Darrell's RPM has been working fantastically for me since yesterday, and it appears that whatever I have done in bouncing the "This mailbox does not exist" messages has made this spammer stop using my address, as I am now getting very few messages to the "reply-to" address used by these spammers. Hooray ....
Like Les, I would like to see some protection against outsiders being able to mailto "group" email addresses. Darrell has pointed out a commandline workaround, but could I suggest that this setting should be a standard switch inside the Groups Panel in the Server Manager (Mitel -- does this make sense) I would also like to say that this mod to the smtpd_check_rules template seems to me to be a fairly easy addition / change for the "standard" SME setup which inherently increases security of the mail server portion. Expressly allowing individual users to recieve mail right at the SMTP boundary makes a lot of sense to me. I think stronger wording on the "Other e-mail settings" Page to the effect that forwarding mail for unknown users to admin may cause grief should be included. As a novice on the security side, I disregarded the "recommended" not knowing the possible dangers. That comment comes from Mitel's typical user not a developer .... Thanks to all (especially Darrell) for the help.
