I think manual language selection doesn't represent a huge issue for users. If we also take into account that to offer this feature *alone* would require us to run our own web infrastructure (which represent cost in money and volunteer time) I think from a cost-benefit perspective it does seem an alright solution.

Github does seem reliable and it doesn't cost us a cent, but any static content host would probably work. Take into account we also are using Github to host most Freenet repositories AFAIK, so it does seem logical.

Best regards,

Effectively Github does *not* support Content-negotiation. If we don't want
to adopt another strategy to serve pages we'll need to stay away from
Github Pages.
Otherwise we'll need to add links to access the site in different
languages. Thus serving content from URLs such
/{de,es,fr}/documentation.html or /documentation.html.{de,es,fr} (or
similar format).

If we use localized URLs (which most static site generators do support) the user would require to switch languages manually. We'll need also to request
changes to the designs to add a language selection menu/selector.
On the other side, we gain in terms of cost (Github pages hosting doesn't cost us) and time (we don't need to configure, patch, upgrade any server).

I think we're better off with this option as money is always a concern and
should be carefully handled.

Hmm. Wasn't the whole point of re-designing the site to make it more appealing to users? Manually having to select the language certainly won't please them a
lot :|

Websites are an insanely popular thing, so there should be an insane amount of website hosters - do we really need to force ourselves to rely on one specific
one = GitHub? :|
