Why are domain name lookups via opensrs so slow? Or, have I just had the bad
luck to check out the slow implementations?

Here's what I have run into:
I have been in the market for a developer to set up an opensrs domain name
registration system on my web site. Each time I am contacted by a developer I
ask them for URL's showing work they've done including their own web sites.

Upon checking out their domain name lookup, each lookup invariably takes much
longer than is typical for domain name lookups. In fact, so long that if I
did
not know better, I would have assumed that the lookup did not work and would
have bailed out before ever getting a result.

Given that the domain name lookup is the first thing any prospective customer
will do, it seems that this is a major problem for what otherwise seems to
be a
good system with responsible management.

Am I wrong about the speed? If not, is there a workaround?

I look forward to your comments and suggestions. Thank you.
