Other than the fact that it would make LibreOffice even more dependent on Java technologies, which is precisely the opposite direction in which current evolution of the product is planned, using JDBC within LibreOffice really sucks when it comes to performance for anything more than a few thousand tuples, not to mention the various quirks when Java runtime or JDK versions are changed, either by the user, or the OS supplier / distributor.
