I think a discussion is always beneficial. There are some proprietary tools
that have no adequate FOSS replacement (perhaps Photoshop vs. the GIMP is an
example), but often only a little bit of searching and installing can result
in a FOSS solution that is every bit the equal of the proprietary solution,
in terms of features and usability. In this case, Wordpress is an extremely
advanced and wildly popular blogging platform... is it really impossible to
use Wordpress or another FOSS blogging platform to accomplish the same
things as Tumblr? Perhaps more importantly, might it not be more beneficial
to use the SFC blog for this purpose, thereby driving traffic to
freeculture.org? Currently the SFC blog gets updated maybe once every two
months, and I think it's perfectly reasonable to expand the subject matter
of the SFC blog if it results in more frequent updates.

On the other hand, it is bad to let ideological debates prevent people from
taking action. Blog posts written on any platform are better than no posts
at all.
