Hi all,
I would like to see bug https://www.illumos.org/issues/4453 fixed
(especially because it looks like is not hard to do it) soon.
Keep in mind, illumos is a volunteer community. If no one feels like fixing
a bug, no one will. You can always try to convince people that fixing a
certain bug is a good idea - either with words or money. Yes, it can be a
bit frustrating not having the community consider your bugs the most
important, but that's just the way it is. Not just in Illumos but in any
open source OS.
Sure, but would be nice to get any feedback, if possible.
But you got a bunch of feedback. The bug got closed months ago, with
suggestions about possible problem you're looking at.
...
Based on my quick reading, that bug is not valid. As Garrett said in one of
the comments, there is no sdcard driver. It sounds like there will never be
such a driver. So, that's that for the bug that's there.
Well it has started as 'no driver for sdcard. At the end it resulted in
something else.
Yep, that's what happens sometimes. Not a problem.
Now, the issue you actually seem to care about is not being able to mount
MicroSD card. This is a separate issue. It should have a separate bug.
Based on my quick reading, it sounds different updates either work or don't.
This is strange because there were no changes that scream "I broke MicroSD
card access". Frankly, there's not enough information here to figure out
what the problem is. I suggest you open a new bug about this, with a title
that better reflects the issue (not being able to access SD cards) and put
all the information there. E.g., are you trying to use larger (4GB or more)
SDHC card?
It is not about size of MicroSD card, it is about missing support for that
USB devices most of time.
Are you 100% certain? Because I'm not. I have a USB N-in-1 dongle thing
that can read SD cards, but when I plug in my 16GB SDHC card it goes crazy
and doesn't show up on the bus. Smaller (non SDHC cards) work for me. I
don't know if it is related to SDHC or what, but unless you tried different
SDHC cards - some large and some small, I don't think you can say. I'd like
to point out that you *never* stated what size SD cards you tried, whether
they were SDHC, or really any detail whatsoever about what setup works and
what doesn't. That sort of information is sometimes what makes or breaks a
bug report.
I just tried (box was updated 3 days ago to illumos-dcf050a) with 2GB ScanDisk MiniSD SDSDH card in adapter, taken from digital
camera and I know it contains some pictures. But, on OI it is not mounted or recognized.
/var/adm/messages shows only bunch of this interesting entry (I use rsyslog):
[2014-10-02 15:34:34] genunix: [ID 864859 kern.notice] NOTICE: rmformat[2359]: missing privilege "sys_devices" (euid = 1961,
syscall = 54) needed at drv_priv+0x20#012
Command was (it shows same output with and w/o inserted SD card, also just
right after reboot):
$ rmformat -l

I strongly suspect that the instances where in worked something was
different (e.g., you use a small SD card) because no one touched the code
related to USB in eons.
Jeff.
I guess it is so, but I cannot use it.
Thanks for update.
Best regards.
