Older usb controllers might not support sdhc cards which are those that are larger than 4GB. And we entirely lack support for SDXC which starts at 32GB if I recall properly.
Fixing SDXC would be easy were it not for exFAT which is the filesystem used on such devices. That filesystem requires a patent license from Microsoft which makes it a nonstarter for illumos. Blame MicroShaft.
