Sorry, I bet I was mislead: the boy at CloudSigma did not install the desktop 
version, but the text only one, that's why
I don't see the entries for the splash image....
What happens, then, is that the grub has a background image for the boot menu, 
and once boot starts, that image
does not disappear for sometime: it usually would get away at boot and leave 
the screen to the kernel text banner.
This appears a lot later though...
During install, the boot process is different, all text, so the kernel text 
banner appears as soon as the booting "...." finish.
I'm checking with the guys if they can provide me a floppy drive to see if 
something changes.

I'm with you with the happy face boot (I know this code name LOL it's all 
around the text-install code!),
but this is our standard XStream Desktop install, meant for gui addicted ;)
Hello, you can choose "edit menu" (e) from grub boot menu and delete
entries referring to background, splash image and so on.
