Hi Gabriele

Considering that smartos and per default uses KVM for hardware virtualized zones I would suggest using that. Although you will be limited to Intel Processors.

For KVM there is the Admin Tool kvmadm[1]. Which can run it inside Zones etc. For Virtualbox you can use a phpGui to manage the VM's

Hi,

I have to replicate some linux server on an XStreamOS based system, not only for backup purposes, but for emergency reason be able to startup the linux replica in case of need. I'm thinking to create VMs installed with the same base system, and replicate legacy data on them daily, so to have them available in case the native ones need maintenance.

I cannot use lx zones, but I had some good experience both with kvm and virtualbox, but never on high load or long uptime.

What would you consider to be a more stable virtualization platform on illumos, as an emergency solution to be run for a short period of time?

Thanks for any idea.

Gabriele
