Part of this is simple business dynamics. Most of the businesses mentioned in this primary distrubution channels are offline, they simply aren't interested in 1 to 1 relationships and sales, they are much more interested in that new office building, shoe store etc.
Aeron chair is largely sold via word of mouth and high perceived value, it's Geigeresque sexy. No amount of web information will replace people going into the store to try one on for size...and that place is likely to be a distributor that Herman miller does want to support. Their goal in life is to support their distribution networks, and not to compete.
