Good points Luke, Steve. The other thing is that the iPad is not a stand-alone product. It's still an accessory to a Mac. With only 64GB of space, you'll fill that up quickly. You still need a Mac (or PC) for the iPad to sync with.
To expound on Luke's question of how does it work with an iPhone, I don't think it does. This doesn't create a triangle of iPhone, Mac, iPad. It's now a V with the Mac at the vertex.
