Sounds like some suits are trying to bring some cred to what is
otherwise totally street. Perfectly stated as "outside in rather
than inside out". My vote's for hip hop museum and my theory on the
acronyms are as follows.
If there is a choice between acronym or a phrase/title, from the
standpoint of phraseology, whatever rolls off the tongue better has a
better chance of sticking. I can barely say NMOH to myself, nevermind
stating it out loud. In the case of MOMA as mentioned earlier, this
is both much easier to say and remember (you're only 1 letter from
mama ;-)
So if you can barely speak "N""M""O""H" then the next best
think is to sound it out as in "Nimoh" (like bimmer for BMW), which
is better, but sounds very similar to a very famous animation about a
lost fish. Not bad as a mnemonic, but probably not the best brand
association for a hip hop museum.
And just for fun, what if the slang for the hip hop museum became
hipopseum (accent on pop). I know, I can hear groaning, but it almost
sounds grand, like a coliseum....or maybe I'm just tired and it
really just sounds like an ice cream treat (hehe). Couldn't help
myself...but I'm sure you get the idea.
