DataPoint: In additional to the local LOPSA chapter meetings (SASAG) I also attend the Seattle DevOps Meetup. The DevOps meetup typically has two to three times as many people as the SASAG meetings. Some of that could be location but I think there is something more fundamental going on. I think the important factors could be focus, people go to the DevOps meetup to learn about DevOps, and the presentations, the DevOps meetup often has presentations from people who are more easily recognized as industry leaders.
I think that most people at the DevOps meetup don't know what LOPSA is. I'm not exactly sure I really know what LOPSA is, other than "an organization of IT people". And frankly, organizations of IT people are a dime a dozen.
