USENIX does a hell of a better job than we do, for starters. The
various conference organizations (the SCALEs and Ohio Linux Fests of
the world).
I'm a member of usenix, but I think they are doing an even worse job than LOPSA
at supporting sysadmins and stopped paying their dues for sage (now renamed

I am a core part of scale, but not everyone is going to be close enough to
participate in something like that. Conferences are not the be-all-end-all of an
organization.
As for your pre-paid dues, if we were to take up a collection and send you a
check for the amount you have pre-paid, would you go away and stop yelling that
the organization is worse than useless? or would you keep yelling about it
anyway as long as anyone is working on it?

P.S. time is NOT a zero sum game. Yes time spent on one organization is time
that can't be spent on another one. But stopping prople from spending time on
one in no way implies that they will work on another one.
