I also have experienced a significant performance increase by moving to
Linux to run my squeezeserver. My library is currently ~33,300 tracks.
I use MusicIP, so when I add tracks, I add them to MusicIP which in turn
automatically adds them to squeezeserver. The process takes about 10
minutes and would be faster if I wasn't using a USB thumb drive as my
boot/OS drive.

As my library has grown, I have not noticed an increasing sluggishness
in any of the interfaces (SBC, WebUI, Moose, etc.).

Regarding the subthread that has developed in this thread, like others
here I'm a music junky too. I got my first CD player in '88. Between
listening to music in my car and at home after the kids go to bed, I
listen to music at least 5 hours a day. I perfer to listen to music
than watch TV. Music is my "thing"; my obsession. I must buy around
100 CDs a year. This goes in spurts as I dive into new genres. For
example, after watching Ken Burns' miniseries on Jazz, I dove into Miles
Davis, Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, etc...plenty of
purchase opportunities there :-). After watching it again recently,
I've expanded into Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Louis Armstong, etc.

Have I listened to it all? Yes, at one time or another. And I do
often go back, though it may be years later.

I can say that I've managed to never purchase a CD I already had unless
it was intentional (e.g. remasters). Which realy surprises me. Lately,
I don't attribute this to my incredible memory (which isn't so
incredible :-) but to making all of my purchases online. If I'm not
sure, I just pull up the SC WebUI and have a look at my library.
