Simple power indicator a rather dim led . It would be very helpfull if there where some external,way to figure if it's on or off . For this purpose it could reside on the backside too not the front .
In fact I propose a very dim gren led on the backside to indicate functioning power supply , nothing more . You are rigth about the can of worms , what not to do is like logitech did with the reciever some LED functions are dependent on the server ! So without the server it could never be turned off . If you further down the road to gen 2 want to dive into the display or more led's can of worms ,deal with that when it's time. More is less , only the most essential information should ever be presented by front LEDs . A small front display could offer more info but products with rows of LEDs are most irritating in a home setting , in a pro environment you often wants the opposite ,to know if signals are present or if stuff are plugged in etc . Even for gen 2 I think of maximum of 3 LEDs. ( but I would be perfectly happy with one or none ) and that would be over the top and they would indicate power , server , playing .
