My thought exactly. Since no files are being identified within the
genre, where is LMS getting the genre name? 

Since the problem persisted after a complete virgin scan on a new
device, it means that it's getting it from somewhere within the folder
being scanned, presumably.

I note the suggestion about playlists, but there are no playlist names
with genre in them, and the playlists themselves point to files in the
music folder, none of which appear to have the genre names. Not sure how
that might work.

I will look into extended tags, but if the tags are specific to files
than those files should show up within the genre and don't.
