Just for the record, I too tried connecting one of my squeezeboxes via Homeplug with no success. It would connect fine but music playback was very choppy and unlistenable. In the end I reverted back to a wireless connection which worked much better. I seem to remember in the past reading on these forums that other people had had difficulty using Homeplugs (and similar) with their Squeezeboxes. Just for the record, at the same time my XBox360 was connected to the internet using a Homeplug and worked perfectly.
