Why would you infer the intended semantics from the current code? How do you know someone else that didn't understand what the option was supposed to do hasn't changed the code implementing it? Or that several major rounds of changes to the scanning and db schema haven't invalidated assumptions that the original implementation of this preference was relying on? Or that the original implementation was complete? It is *very* hard for me to believe with an internal name as clear as 'useBandAsAlbumArtist' that the preference was not intended to cause any BAND(TPE2) tags to be treated as though they were ALBUMARTIST tags, for exactly the reason MrSinatra wants.
