I think that's very unusual for Apple to ship a non-functional machine
out. It could be whoever let that machine off the assembly line without
verifying it works is going to loose their job. Steve Jobs is not an
individual who takes kindly to screw ups that hit his customers like that.
He is largely the reason everything is the way it is with the Macintosh
interface appearance and operation today. Had Bill Gates been half the
man Steve Jobs is, Windows and the Mac would have been far more equal than
they are in terms of interface and operations. I go to technical
developers forum meetings monthly at work and whenever Apples get
displayed with Leopard or Tiger running on them there's an aweful lot of
salivating by an aweful lot of developers around the conference tables to
get macs to replace windows at our workplaces and this is just from seeing
the macintosh interfaces in action.
