I get this behaviour here too, dan isn't the only one. I just tested it by importing a new album, checking it was all organised correctly in the itunes music folder through finder, and checking for dupes in itunes (there were none because I'm obsessively tidy with the library lol). When I deleted the album from within itunes and answered yes to the move to trash prompt, the album disappears from my library, but can still be found in the exact same location of the itunes music folder, so I had to trash it myself from finder and empty trash.
So the good news is Dan that you're not alone. Bad news is that I have no clue why this happens. Could it be a permissions thing maybe? Anyone?
