Just a quick suggestion for a feature:

Allow users to assign custom keys to specific characters. One of the only places I really miss Microsoft Word is when I'm typing papers for the sciences. I would really love to be able to assign ctrl-shift-o to the degree symbol, ctrl-shift-a to alpha, etc. It's so annoying I've (unfortunately) given up using open office writer for most of my academic writing (my old copy of Word '95 allows me this functionality).

Thanks,

Jesse C.
