PPIG discuss: Programmer's mental models

I’m setting up a study to elicit the mental models that developers have when working on different kinds of applications, for example a rich client application, web application, client server app etc. What are the best references for me to get a head start on reading up about how best to set such studies up, what data to collect, how to analyse it etc?   Thanks!   Steven
