Being on the board will not help you achieve this, since this definition
is in the bylaws, and these can only be changed by a special majority of
the general assembly. You could have proposed this change now, without
being a board member, and being one won't help you in making this change.

  Not exactly true. The board can elect not to accept any new "yedidim" and
only to accept full members who satisfy the requriements in the bylaws. This
will of course dramatically reduce the total number of members+friends, but
might slightly increase the total number of members. One might hope that at
least some of the now-rejected "yedidim" will donate money with no incentive
behind it.
