Also, what editor are you using? if its not an IDE-type thing remember to save your work in the editor. If you are coming from the Windows programming world generally your programs will save when you build and run something in the IDE. If you're using just an editor like Emacs, Vim, Gedit, Kate, or whatever it is you must remember to save your work after you've made and edit.
